So cool being part of this mixtape. I'll listen to 'my song' 😉 and get back to you later on. Thanks as well for the feedback on my story, it's so interesting for me to see the story though someone else's perspective.

Human Island was eerie and made me feel a little uneasy but also grateful, which I think is perfect for the world that you've built. I'm so glad you're serializing your work and am looking forward to following along as a reader!

Also, the song that I picked for your story is the first song of an EP that the artist actually recorded live and put on YouTube a few years back https://youtu.be/ire5MFJp0BU. I thought it fit the story, but also curious as the writer if you feel it fit or not.

I loved the song. The part where the piano strokes ripple like tormented waves is absolutely haunting. Such an emotional song.

Uneasy and grateful. A beautiful way of describing the feeling you had while reading the story. Thank you 💚

Agree with Bevan -- I know this format must take some time, but I hope you continue to create these mixtapes. I'm listening to Father and Son by Cat Stevens right now, and, man, it's spot on.

What makes this so special is that you're a close reader and a thoughtful writer. I'd wager you put an honest amount of time into this mix, and it shows. I'm looking forward to exploring the other features here.

And thanks Spencer.

Father and Son was a natural pick for Dada, both because it fits the essay/video and because it made me think about my dad--who loves that song.

It definitely did take some time to compile, but it helps that I keep a lot of notes as I read (random aside: I thought that Notes on Substack was going to basically be like Obsidian or Notion to help take notes on pieces here on Substack).

The thing that took the most time and thought was deciding on the placement, how the pieces flowed together, how they played into the theme, and what songs were the best to accompany them.

But it is one of those things that is a labor of love. Sure, it takes time, but also I really enjoyed doing it so the time doesn't really feel like a hard time investment to make.

Imagine if notes was an answer to Notion? What a different last few weeks we'd have experienced!

Regardless of how long it took to make, I'm just really glad you made it. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

It would’ve been a very different few weeks for sure! And thanks for the encouragement, Taegan! It’s been really cool to connect with you and see how you’re using Substack and how it’s evolving.

Thanks, Victoria! Glad you liked it! I actually got the idea by building on something I saw on Notes where Adam Mastroianni suggested that Substack add a feature for writers to create a sort of greatest hits of their work for new readers.
